City of Novi Sad is one of the partners of the SocIoTal project “A reliable, smart and secure Internet of Things for Smart Cities", which was approved in the budget framework of the EU FP7. The basic project idea is to design and implement tools and solutions which would enable people with insufficient IT knowledge, especially about the Internet of Things, to create applications and systems which can be useful to them and their immediate environment – the building they live in, street, neighborhood. Workshops were organized in Local Communities of Novi Sad and Belgrade, where citizens were able to give their suggestions in accordance with the project propositions. SocIoTal will deliver services and application for the citizens depicted during co-creation workshops held in the City of Novi Sad and the City of Belgrade and they will be able to test “Elevator supervisor” pilot which enables automatic monitoring of elevator's traveled distance and automatic malfunction detection as well as possibility for alerts that will notify the user if service is required; “Mood of the city” pilot which will show how much the city is happy by building a happiness index - metric based on an environmental parameters extracted from the sensors deployed in the city and citizens' feedback: mood detected from the phone's camera and scientific questionnaire. The total grant value for the City of Novi Sad is 39,240.00 EUR. Project duration is 36 months, and it implementation began on 1st September 2013.
