NOVI SAD PRESENTS ITS PRODUCTS WITH GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION

11.07.2014.
Novi Sad’s products with geographical indication – Futog’s fresh cabbage and sourkrout and the Fruška Gora lime honey – were presented at the organic food market “Moj salaš”.

Representatives of Producers Association, the “Futog cabbage” processors and the “Jovan Živanović” Beekeepers Association presented all the characteristics of the products, while Member of the City Council in charge of economy Goran Sečujski, MSc, talked about the importance of organic agricultural production and brands that contribute to the authenticity of Novi Sad.

-       We consider these two brands important for the City of Novi Sad as a tourist and gastronomic destination. We want to use the presence of numerous tourists from all over the world in this period of the Exit Festival to present these potentials at the “Moj salaš” market. We are cooperating with the “Jovan Živanović” Beekeepers Association and many other partners on the project “Lime Trees & Honey Bees for Sustainable Development of the Danube Microregion”, worth 170 thousand euros and jointly financed by the European Union and Austrian Development Agency. In this way we are striving to strengthen organic production and beekeeping – said Mr. Sečujski.

The people present had an opportunity to taste Futog’s cabbage and the Fruška Gora lime honey, as well as dishes prepared with these ingredients. Lime honey from Fruška Gora is one of rare monofloral types of honey in Europe, which contains a generous share of lime pollen, over 60% in one kilogram of honey.

Through the centuries, Futog’s cabbage has undergone certain changes due to climate, natural and human factors, but it has retained its high-quality features to this day. Producers Association and the “Futog cabbage” processors provided the highest level of protection of geographical indication for their product.
