PRESENTATION OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION PROGRAM

Head of the Coordination Team for the development of the Environmental Protection Program and Assistant Head of the City Administration for Environmental Protection, MSc Dragica Branković, attended the presentation of the results of the development of  „Тhe Environmental Protection Program“, which was held in the Blue Hall of the City Assembly of Novi Sad.

City of Novi Sad, at the suggestion of the City Administration for Environmental Protection, has participated in an Open Call of the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities to provide technical support to local self-governments in strategic planning and financial management under the EU Exchange 4 Program and together with the municipalities of Novi Bečej and Kruševac it was chosen to be one of the cities supported for " The Environmental Protection Program" development.

Along with this project, the City Administration for Environmental Protection is involved in the project of „The Interbalkan Network of Local Self-Governments in the Field of Environment“, which is the result of the signed Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the Balkan area in the field of environmental protection between the City of Novi Sad and the Associations for Environmental Protection of the City of Athens and Piraeus.

- This project is of great importance to the citizens of Novi Sad, because its goal is finding the best solutions for the problems of environmental protection. It was adopted by the European Commission, and its deadline is April 2015. The aim is to jointly identify the existing environmental problems, together with the representatives of all organizations which are involved in the protection of the environment. In this phase of the program, the analysis of the situation of the environment has been performed and the  problems in all areas of environmental protection in the City of Novi Sad have been identified – MSc Dragica Branković said.

Besides Novi Sad, the realization of this project involves seven partner cities: Athens, Niš, Sofia, East Sarajevo, Bijeljina, Rijeka and Tirana, and in each of them  local meetings have been organized.

The presentation in question was organized by the the City Administration for Environmental Protection and it was attended by the representatives of the Local Economic Development Office, the City Administration for Urban Development and Housing, the City Administration for Utilities, the City Administration for Inspection, PUC „City Parks“ and PUC „City Sanitation“.
