"MILK DAY" SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE AT THE FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE

Novi Sad Mayor Miloš Vučević attended a scientific conference "Milk Day" which was held in Novi Sad, in honor of the sixtieth anniversary of the Faculty of Agriculture, which was officially opened by the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management prof. Dragan Glamočić, PhD. The “Milk Day", which brought together leading national and international experts in science and technology, processing, farm-management and the EU policy, offered an opportunity to discuss the regulatory reforms that will significantly affect the dynamics and development of the dairy sector at all levels, as well as the challenges that await the farmers and dairy factories in achieving of the EU standards, with special emphasis on milk quality.

-It is an honor to be a part of the scientific conference "Milk Day" in our city, and that, in the year when the Faculty of Agriculture marks an important milestone - six decades of its existence. The event has led numerous representatives of dairy sector, representatives of national government institutions, as well as those of European institutions, to Novi Sad. Meetings of this kind are an excellent opportunity for breeders and experts from across the country, as well as the guests from abroad, to acquire new knowledge, share experience and learn about innovation and new trends - the Mayor said and emphasized his belief that the meeting should be an incentive to milk producers to achieve better results.

The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Prof. Dragan Glamočić, PhD,  said that the available resources in dairy sector can be the backbone of the agricultural rural development in Serbia.- The process of Serbia's accession to the European Union implies a kind of challenge for the dairy industry in Serbia, but it also opens up potentials for intensive development, through the inevitable improvement of the sector - said Minister Glamočić and stressed that fostering competitiveness suggests meeting the challenges, rather than silently observing the system.

The topics covered by the experts concerned the institutional and economic aspects of the development of the dairy sector in Serbia, regional challenges for the development of the dairy sector, aspects of milk production on farms, as well as the development of technology in development of dairy sector. On this occasion, the program relating to the education of the youngest about milk with interactive content, which was also presented,  and the best milk producers were awarded. The host and organizer of the "Milk Day" is the Faculty of Agriculture Novi Sad, Department of Animal Husbandry, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry, the National Association of Dairy Processors – SEDA, Central Association of Milk Producers of Vojvodina and Central Association of Breeders of Simmental Cattle.
