In the beginning of this year European Commission made the decision about the adoption of the IPARD II Program proposal of the Republic of Serbia, i.e. about the usage of pre-accession EU funds for rural development, and allocated 175 million EUR for its implementation.
- This program defines measures for support to rural development in accordance with current EU regulations and its goal is the attainment of European standards and increase in productivity and competitiveness – said member of the City Council in charge of economy Goran Sečujski, adding that the goal of today's lecture is to acquaint Novi Sad's farmers, their associations, interested companies and other organizations, as well as city administrations, with this program and its measures, as well as with the planned activities of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection in 2016 and the role of local self-government in those activities.
- It is very important that representatives of local self-government, i.e. city administration, primarily the City Administration for Economy, are acquainted with the objective and measures of the IPARD Program, so that we could at all times be at service to our farmers and a link with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection – Mr. Sečujski concluded.
Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Mr. Dragan Mirković said that today's lecture should contribute to a better understanding of the potential in terms of pre-accession assistance in rural development. As he emphasized, this is the first EU aid ever since it began to be awarded, which is intended for direct users, agricultural producers, legal entities and individuals, micro-enterprises, cooperatives and so on.
- With the adoption of the Program by 2020, the funds in the amount of EUR 175 million have been identified, and recoveries range from 50 to 70 percent depending on the measures, so in this situation the timely preparations are necessary. We hope that everyone will assume its role, whereas I mean predominantly the advisory services which we train intensively to work with producers, as well as local self-governments which should become information centers where all interested parties can be informed in detail, due to the fact that we are expecting the first calls for this type of competition already in 2016 – Assistant Minister, Mr. Dragan Mirković, said.
