CITY INVESTS IN CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS

02.02.2012.
Igor Pavličić, Mayor of Novi Sad, and Andrej Bursać, member of the City Council in charge of culture, visited the Youth Theatre and its reconstructed Grand Hall.

For the purpose of better work conditions in the institution, wood flooring was rehabilitated on the Grand Stage, as well as electricity distribution network to the electric meter and main distribution cabinet, while new installed power was established in the Grand Hall, where the auditorium has been renovated as well.

- The Youth Theatre is very significant for Novi Sad. Regarding the Grand Hall, the most important issue was to repair electric installations and ensure that security was on adequate level. Performances are already taking place and actors are satisfied with the improved work conditions. So far, seven million RSD have been invested in the reconstruction, and yet to be completed this year is the installation of central air-conditioning system. Since the Novi Sad Theatre and Serbian National Theatre are also in the reconstruction process, this year we will have a truly representative state in these institutions – Mayor Igor Pavličić pointed out and added that 57 million RSD are planned for investments in cultural institutions this year.

According to Zoran Djerić, director of the Youth Theatre, one of peculiarities of the institution is that it adapts to all age groups, while it is also the oldest puppet theatre in the Balkans.

- Soon we will publish a Youth Theatre monograph, presenting the importance of the theatre and its building for the cultural history of the city and wider region. Financial support of the City is of critical importance, as it will create conditions for a longer season and more performances – said Mr. Djerić. Last season was exceptionally successful, with more than 300 performances and more than 50,000 ticket sales.
