The official opening of the new school premises for bilingual education was preceded by performances in Russian and Serbian that the children of this school prepared together with their teachers.
- With joint forces we have successfully implemented the project we started 18 months ago in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, Embassy of the Russian Federation and the NIS Gazprom Neft company. The result of that is the start of curriculum in Russian and Serbian for 37 first-grade and second-grade students. This is a good example for other companies and primary schools in Novi Sad, showing them how they should work, and the City’s desire is to have as many such projects as possible in the domain of education, with wholehearted support of the City Administration for Education – said the Mayor, congratulating the NIS Gazprom Neft company and all the Jovan Popović Primary School employees.
NIS Gazprom Neft Deputy General Manager Andrey Shibanov said that the company has been displaying its social responsibility for years already, providing support to educational institutions in Serbia. He said that today’s event is just one more step in that direction.
- We are aware how important those steps are for us, since investments in education and young people contribute to the development of our city and of the country we work in. We are ready for future cooperation in similar projects in entire Serbia – said Mr. Shibanov.
The opening of a Russian class in the Jovan Popović Primary School will facilitate the education of Russian children whose parents live and work in Novi Sad, while the plan of the City Administration for Education is to prepare and motivate as many schools as possible for bilingual curricula in other languages as well, as knowing languages is a great competitive advantage both in life and in further education.
