The Mayor of Novi Sad, Miloš Vučević, met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Kamil Khasiyev in the City Hall. On that occasion, he thanked him for his first official visit and emphasized that Novi Sad nurtures good relations with the Embassy of that country.

Officials discussed joint activities in the fields of economy and culture so far, referring to the fact that a memorial bust to composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov was erected in Novi Sad, and that Azerbaijan helped reconstruct the church of St. Petka in Petrovaradin.

The Ambassador and the Mayor assessed that there is room for improving cooperation, especially considering that Novi Sad is the European Capital of Culture this year. The interlocutors agreed that culture is an ideal space for connecting peoples, and that cultural exchange contributes to better mutual understanding and more stable international relations.

The Ambassador Kamil Khasiyev and Mayor Vučević expressed their belief that good relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Azerbaijan represent a good basis for concretizing cooperation at the city level, and Vučević thanked for the fact that Azerbaijan respects the territorial integrity of Serbia.
